    What is market cap?

Written in plain English for readers in Iceland.

    Short answer

Market cap is what a company is worth on the stock market: share price × number of shares. A $1 trillion market cap means investors value the whole company at $1T.

    Why it matters

Big-cap companies are usually steadier. Small-caps can grow faster but swing harder.

A note for readers in Iceland

This lesson explains a global concept — the same idea applies to markets watched from Iceland as anywhere else. Local rules, accounts, taxes and product availability vary and change over time, so we deliberately don't cover them here.

Educational content only — not tax, legal or investment advice. Always confirm current rules with a qualified professional in Iceland.
